Health in Slums Fund

Approximately 1 billion people live in slums. These people are exposed to major health risks, such as indoor air pollution, which puts them at high risk of developing lung diseases such as lung cancer and COPD. India is a frontrunner in this issue. Maastricht University sees tackling this unacceptably unhealthy situation as part of its mission to focus on global issues.

Indian and Dutch researchers want to work together to contribute to a healthier future for the residents of slums in India and elsewhere, by developing affordable and efficient facilities. Scientific research is essential to realise this ambition. This requires all the support we can get, including from third parties outside Maastricht University.

The objective of this fund is to support scientific research at Maastricht University, particularly aimed at improving the health situation in slums in India and other developing countries.
