Youth, Food and Health chair

The Youth, Food and Health chair is engaged in research and education regarding young people and healthy nutrition.

The chair, based at the Brightlands Campus Greenport in Venlo, has three objectives. Firstly, the chair holders conduct research, focusing on the main questions: why do young people often eat unhealthy food, and what can be done to encourage them to eat healthily?

The researchers also want to use their research results to develop concrete interventions to ensure that young people actually start eating more healthily. For example, the chair collaborates with Kokkerelli/Kids University for Cooking Foundation, a ‘laboratory in practice’ with educational nutrition programmes for children.

The chair also has an educational role, allowing students to experience how scientific research can be applied in practice.

Chair holders

The chair holders are Prof. Dr. Remco Havermans and Prof. Dr. Edgar van Mil, both of whom work at the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Maastricht University.
