The He’Art ma’at team raised over 55,000 euros through crowdfunding in 2024. A fantastic achievement! The campaign demonstrates the power of the collective like no other and shows what we can all achieve when we work together.
At the end of November, our senior fundraisers Guido Vanderbroeck and Yves Franssen presented the well-deserved ‘Crowdfunder of the Year’ award to the team. Hundreds of people donated and contributed in a sporting or creative way, enabling the research into an artistic therapy for heart patients to really get off the ground. Thank you to all donors and those involved for their fantastic efforts in 2024! Special thanks go to CARIM, the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht, for the commitment of the crowdfunding doubler.
“The fact that we raised the money through crowdfunding makes it extra special. Colleagues, family, friends, patients and local businesses: so many people have donated or made a physical effort for our project. Like us, our donors truly believe in what we are doing, which is a very special feeling.” – physician-researcher Yesim Kaya
A sudden cardiac arrest due to arrhythmia comes as a bolt from the blue. Often an internal defibrillator is implanted, which administers a life-saving shock in the event of future ventricular arrhythmias. This is often accompanied by fear and stress, and with that the chance of new disorders. Cardiologist Rachel ter Bekke and artist Claudia Volders developed the HeArt-Ma’at scientific art project: a personalised virtual and analogue art intervention. The therapy aims to prevent further arrhythmias. In addition, the patient gains more control over his emotions and can invite family, fellow patients and caregivers into his world.
