The Limburg Fund for Rehabilitation plays an important role in improving rehabilitation care in Limburg by promoting scientific research and high‑quality education at UM, and by strengthening collaboration between knowledge institutions and practice-based organisations.
Health is more than simply the absence of illness. It is being able to move, communicate, work and participate in life in the way you wish. For many people, this is not self‑evident after an illness, accident or congenital condition. Rehabilitation then becomes the crucial link: the path back to independence, resilience and quality of life. It focuses on what is still possible, despite the illness, accident or condition.
Rehabilitation touches every aspect of health. It helps a child to develop, an adult to return to work, and someone with hearing difficulties to communicate again. It makes the difference between surviving and living.
In Limburg, people work every day to improve rehabilitation care and develop innovative treatment methods. The Limburg Fund for Rehabilitation plays an important role in enabling progress in rehabilitation care by investing where regular resources fall short. To make this mission possible, the fund supports scientific research and high‑quality education at Maastricht University. In doing so, it contributes to new insights that quickly find their way into practice. Within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Maastricht University, researchers and clinicians work daily to improve treatment options so that people can be supported ever more effectively in their rehabilitation – not only to recover, but to participate fully in society again.
What makes the fund unique is its strong connection between science and practice. Through the collaboration of partners within the Academic Workplace for Rehabilitation, practice-based organisations and knowledge institutions work together so that newly developed knowledge can be applied immediately. Here, research, education, care and innovation come together with one shared goal: better rehabilitation – and therefore better health – for everyone who needs it.
The Limburg Fund for Rehabilitation makes this progress possible by:
Investing in rehabilitation is investing in health. In knowledge that continues to grow. In care that continues to improve. And above all: in people who, step by step, regain control over their lives. Together, we make recovery possible. Together, we build health.
The fund has an advisory committee that assesses the expenditure of the Limburg Fund for Rehabilitation. The members of this committee are:
