By raising these funds, the professors aim to stimulate excellence in the scientific work of young researchers affiliated with Maastricht University. In particular, they are considering recently graduated researchers who are at the beginning of their scientific careers and for whom a lack of resources prevents them from conducting research of evident excellence.
The Nanne de Vries Professorship Fund invites recently PhD graduates to apply for a grant! Are you at the start of your academic career, but is a lack of financial resources hindering your research? Then this call for proposals may be of interest to you. The fund offers financial support to academic talent, thereby helping to take research at UM an important step forward. No new date has been set for the submission of applications at this time.

Young researchers (up to six years after obtaining their PhD) can apply for a grant to receive financial support for their (research) projects.
The Nanne de Vries Professorship Fund Allocation Committee aims to support the extra efforts made by young, excellent, recently graduated scientists and to help them further develop their scientific careers.
Requests for financial support for (research) projects that contribute to the scientific career of the individual researcher can be submitted to the Nanne de Vries Professorship Fund Allocation Committee, with a maximum of €3,500 per application.
It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Nanne de Vries at the end of 2024. From 2012 to 2020, he was a board member of the Fund, a role he fulfilled with great dedication. De Vries made an important contribution to the establishment of both the Professors’ Fund and the UM Dissertation Prize, both of which are aimed at stimulating academic talent. He was awarded the Tanspenning for his important contribution to the development and growth of UM and the Faculty of Medicine. Nanne de Vries leaves an indelible mark on the academic world and far beyond. We will miss his enthusiasm and commitment. We wish his loved ones much strength in coping with this great loss.
