The School of Health Professions Education (SHE), with its three pillars of research, education and valorisation, has expertise in research and education in the broad field of health, with a social impact. SHE is probably the largest and most productive group and wants to share its expertise and thereby have an impact on innovating and improving the field of education. Not only regionally and nationally, but also internationally. SHE supports its mission of educating and training health professionals in developing countries and invests in this through its SHE Collaborates department.
SHE Collaborates is the international department of SHE, which serves as a driving force for educational innovation in many parts of the world. SHE Collaborates is the knowledge broker between the external demand for educational change and the expertise of SHE and Maastricht University in Problem-Based Learning. The world of education in the health professions is changing rapidly. The fundamental backbone of this change is the growing emergence of educational units, including in vulnerable areas.
There is a great need for curriculum renewal in education, good leadership, digital innovations and change management, particularly in developing countries; hence the creation of this SHE Fund. By offering scholarships, we want to contribute to the training and equipping of these future change managers in developing countries. Many SHE alumni become educational leaders and change agents in their home institutions. Alumni of the SHE PhD programme have become productive scientists in the field. Providing equal opportunities and more opportunities in developing countries is therefore an important objective of the SHE Fund.
Through the SHE Fund, SHE aims to contribute to the professionalisation of educational professionals in the health sector in vulnerable areas by means of SHE education and collaboration in research and projects. The SHE Fund strives to achieve this objective by:
‘Today’s students in these programmes are tomorrow’s leaders in healthcare in their countries.’
