Together for Each Other: Over €30,000 raised

We’ve done it – #foreachother! The 2024–2025 Annual Fund Campaign has come to a successful close with an impressive result. For the 15th consecutive year, the Limburg University Fund has organised this campaign, this time under the motto: Together, we push boundaries. Forces were united for four unique and socially relevant projects, each with compelling themes.

This year, no fewer than 309 people donated a total of €30,728!

The contributions will support a new method for diagnosing Alzheimer’s, scholarships for young talent, the training of healthcare workers in Liberia, and groundbreaking Cardiological Digital Twins. The number of donors has remained relatively stable over recent years, which gives us confidence for the future. It’s a wonderful mix of individuals, businesses, and organisations—including many members of staff at Maastricht University, and of course, our alumni! This strong result of over €30,000 is something we can look back on with pride and satisfaction, and it gives us renewed motivation for the next Annual Fund Campaign.

About the projects

Each of this year’s four projects brought its own colour to the Annual Fund Campaign. Two of them were true scientific research initiatives that resonated strongly, as they concern conditions that, sadly, affect many of us.

Marlies Gijs’ smart tears are a groundbreaking discovery, allowing Alzheimer’s disease to be detected through tear fluid. This enables better monitoring of the disease’s progression. The Cardiological Digital Twins project uses virtual replicas of patients’ hearts to help doctors predict outcomes more accurately and optimise treatments. In addition, donations supported the training of healthcare workers in Liberia—where high-quality education will ultimately contribute to better health in one of the world’s poorest countries. Finally, scholarships for young talent (Equal Opportunities Programme) remain a core element of our Annual Fund Campaign.

Thank you!

We would like to thank everyone who supported the Annual Fund Campaign.
Every donation is of great value in making these important scientific projects possible, helping them continue and evolve.
