On Wednesday 16 April, we organised our annual Maastricht University Dinner at the Provincial Government Building. With around 200 attendees from the top echelons of Limburg’s business community and Maastricht University, we can look back on a fruitful evening. We would like to thank all organisations for their attendance and support. We attach great importance to an active connection with society in order to continue developing both the university and our region.
Each year, the companies attending the dinner can choose a theme that interests them and/or is relevant to their organisation. Professors specialising in this theme are paired with the companies at the dinner tables. This creates a wonderful interaction between business and science, which sometimes results in surprising regional collaborations.
In keeping with tradition, cheques are also presented for groundbreaking research during this annual dinner. Three talented researchers gave a pitch to the attendees. This year, Dr Marlies Gijs won first prize – a cheque worth €10,000. Her revolutionary research has discovered that Alzheimer’s disease can be detected in tear fluid. Konrad Köllnig from LAW also won an award for his theme: ‘Making European data and AI laws fit for the new geopolitical era’, as did Charmayne Siebers from FSE for her theme: ‘Bottle-to-bottle recycling’. This is a well-deserved encouragement and incentive for all three to continue and further develop their important research.
