The University Fund Limburg serves as a bridge between academia and the business sector. With a focus on (inter)national knowledge valorisation and investment in the (EU)regional (knowledge) economy, the involvement of both parties is essential. Many companies have already recognised the importance of this connection by providing financial support to researchers and students.
The University Fund Limburg is continuously seeking new partners who wish to collaborate with Maastricht University and offers various opportunities to do so.

Maastricht University (UM) is increasingly focused on contributing to solutions for business and societal challenges at regional, national, and international levels. In its collaborations with businesses, the emphasis is on building sustainable relationships while aligning with corporate social responsibility (CSR) objectives. Partnering with UM enables companies to fulfil their ambitions regarding CSR and their need for academic expertise.
As an organisation, you can engage with academics in joint research projects, initiate contract research, participate in the UM Dinner, fund scholarships, or establish a Named Fund. Together, we are happy to create a tailored plan that aligns closely with your company’s goals and ambitions.
In recent years, we have successfully collaborated with, among others:
The Fund is a charitable foundation dedicated to supporting research and education at Maastricht University. There are various options for tax-efficient giving, both for donors residing in the Netherlands and for those living abroad.

The UM Dinner offers a unique opportunity for businesses to connect with leading professors and regional decision-makers. This exclusive evening, organised by the University Fund Limburg and the Province of Limburg, links companies with academic research relevant to their expertise and key topics within their sector. The event serves as a platform for valuable collaborations and innovative insights.
The UM Partner Programme offers businesses the opportunity to commit to Maastricht University for at least two years and contribute to strengthening the Limburg region. By participating, you support innovative research and education with a direct impact on the region, gain access to academic expertise, young talent, and an international network, and enhance your company’s reputation. The programme is ideal for businesses that wish to engage in corporate social responsibility and develop through practical, applicable knowledge.

“We work globally towards a sustainable world, with a focus on inclusivity and diversity, both in our workplace and in society. Supporting the Equity and Inclusion Programme of the Fund aligns well with our societal focus on contributing to equal educational opportunities for young people.”

LKPU Consulting and the University Fund Limburg are launching a scholarship programme for aspiring German students. Initiated by Jan Koppetsch, an alumnus of UM, the programme provides support to six students with financial limitations. The three-year programme will begin in 2024/25 at the School of Business and Economics and may expand in the future. In addition to financial assistance, students will receive rental subsidies, learning materials, and professional development opportunities, including a master’s thesis at LKPU Consulting.

The UM Dinner 2024 brought together over 190 regional companies, professors, and external guests on 17 April at the Provinciehuis Limburg. Now in its 16th year, the event focused on collaboration, innovation, and promoting impactful research. Highlights included presentations on environmental psychology, robotics, and political censorship. Mariëlle Wijermars received the Young Talent and Innovation Award, with a financial incentive of €10,000.

EQUANS is the first participant in the UM Partner Programme, an initiative of the University Fund Limburg/SWOL that brings the business sector and Maastricht University closer together. Through the programme, EQUANS makes a donation to research and education on societal topics and gains access to the university’s expertise and networks. This partnership fosters knowledge sharing and cross-pollination, with the aim of jointly accelerating innovative solutions and supporting sustainable transitions.
By donating to the University Fund Limburg, you can support groundbreaking research, help advance education at the university, and give students—regardless of their background—the opportunity to study. Every donation, big or small, makes a meaningful impact.
