Funds and foundations play a crucial role in supporting social progress. The University Fund Limburg offers a reliable and expert partner for funds that wish to contribute to new research, equal educational opportunities, or sustainable innovations.
Whether it’s scholarships for talented young people, promoting scientific research, or funding a special chair – together, we can make a lasting impact. We work closely with our partners to achieve their goals and ensure that their contributions are utilised to the fullest.
Every foundation has a unique mission. That’s why we are happy to work together to explore how your donation can make a difference. Would you like to support a specific research project? Or perhaps enable scholarships for students who would not be able to study without financial assistance? We will work with you to ensure that your contribution aligns with your objectives.
Would you also like to contribute to science and the talent of tomorrow? Get in touch with us to discuss the possibilities.
In recent years, we have successfully collaborated with, among others:
“The crowdfunding campaign to combat poverty in Maastricht perfectly aligned with our societal objectives. With the expertise and passion of student Kim Thieme, we considered it a unique initiative to support. It’s wonderful that we, as a foundation, remain involved in the further implementation of the project.”

The HersenStrijd Fund received €24,500 from a private foundation for research into a Closed Loop System that automatically adjusts cerebral circulation in the ICU. This system helps with swelling or bruising and relieves the workload of ICU nurses. This way, more brain cells can be saved and patients have a better chance of recovery. The research builds on previous studies and is desperately needed, given the growing number of victims with serious brain injuries.
The Dr. ir. J.H.J. van de Laar Foundation donated €400,000 in 2015, with which the Van De Laar Fund was established within the University Fund Limburg. This fund supported biochemical research into cardiovascular diseases at CARIM, funded guest professors, and a chair in coagulation biochemistry. Now that it has fulfilled its mission, the fund is being dissolved.
The Diabetes Research Foundation Netherlands (DON) will donate a significant amount over the next four years to research at the MERLN Institute at Maastricht University. The research group led by Aart van Apeldoorn is developing a living implant to better protect beta cells in type 1 diabetes. This implant mimics the natural pancreatic environment. The University Fund Limburg/SWOL is managing the donation.
By donating to the University Fund Limburg, you can support groundbreaking research, help advance education at the university, and give students—regardless of their background—the opportunity to study. Every donation, big or small, makes a meaningful impact.
